This is the final lightsaber used on screen by Darth Vader. It was during his ultimate father-and-son duel with Luke Skywalker aboard the Death Star. In that battle, Vader’s hand was severed, and the lightsaber fell and was lost along with it.
This saber is based on a Graflex hilt, rather than the MPP hilt seen in Episode IV and V, as the original prop clearly shows distinct Graflex characteristics. When placing these three sabers side by side, the difference becomes immediately obvious.
As is well known, the Graflex hilt was originally used to create Luke’s lightsaber in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, a weapon that once belonged to Anakin Skywalker.
In other words, at the very end of Vader’s life, he was, in a sense, holding Anakin’s Jedi lightsaber once again. In the glow of that blade, the fallen soul briefly reunited with the person he once was—completing his true “Return of the Jedi.”
We have recreated this lightsaber as accurately as possible, from its appearance to its proportions, staying true to the original movie prop. The all-metal hilt gives it the presence of a real weapon, rather than a toy.
