The Most Legendary Lightsaber: The Lightsaber of Skywalker

The Skywalker lightsaber is easily one of the most legendary weapons in Star Wars. Its history stretches across three generations—from Anakin, to Luke, and finally Rey—witnessing some of the galaxy’s most pivotal moments.

Its story began at the Battle of Geonosis. Anakin Skywalker lost his lightsaber there, so he built another one. For years through the Clone Wars, that lightsaber never left his side. But everything changed on the fiery world of Mustafar. Having fallen to the dark side, Anakin faced his former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, in their fated duel. Defeated and broken, Anakin lost the saber, and Obi-Wan picked it up. From then on, Obi-Wan went into hiding on Tatooine under the name Ben Kenobi, quietly watching over Anakin’s son, Luke.

Luke’s encounter with the saber was pure chance. One day, while with his uncle purchase two droids, he discovered that one of them carried a hidden message from Princess Leia: “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.” She was searching for a man named Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke eventually found him, now living under the name Ben, the old man opened a chest, handed Luke the lightsaber, and told him: “This is your father’s lightsaber.”

Luke began training with it, but during his duel on Cloud City with Darth Vader—his father, who had fully embraced the dark side, Luke lost both his hand and the saber. That was when Vader revealed the truth: “I am your father.”

Years later, the saber resurfaced in the collection of Maz Kanata. When a young scavenger named Rey arrived, Maz told her: “The saber. It’s calling to you.” From then on, Rey carried the Skywalker lightsaber across the galaxy, fighting many battles. With the voices of past Jedi guiding her, she finally defeated Emperor Palpatine.

The story’s end brings us back to Tatooine. Rey returned to the desert and placed the Skywalker lightsaber alongside Leia’s. She knelt down, scooped up sand in both hands, and gently covered the hilts. As the twin suns set, their golden light fell across the mound, closing the chapter of a legend that spanned three generations. This saber bore witness to the galaxy’s fall into darkness and its return to light—a story now etched forever into the stars.
