After most of Return of the Jedi had been filmed, a few scenes required reshoots. For close combat shots, where long blades could be dangerous, the crew created a shorter stunt lightsaber known as the original Yuma stunt saber. This stunt saber was later repainted and modified, eventually becoming the version fans know as Luke’s “Hero” lightsaber, the Luke V1 lightsaber.
When Darth Vader says, “I see you have constructed a new lightsaber,” he is holding this version. The Luke V1 lightsaber also appeared in the deleted cave scene, where Luke slides the card on the control box to reveal the inner circuitry, allowing him to fine-tune the saber — a detail that fans now recognize as iconic.
The blade of this saber is green, which was visually chosen during filming to stand out against the bright skies of Tatooine.
89sabers has recreated this legendary “Hero” lightsaber with stunning accuracy. The replica faithfully matches the original design and details, including the uneven ring thickness, the illuminated control box with red and green arrows, and the screen-accurate emitter and blade plug. Fans can even replicate the red and green blinking effect seen in the deleted cave scene.
